The General Skilled Migration program aims to fill skill gaps in the Australian economy by focusing on individuals with skills in the occupation list.
The program covers a variety of visas, including a direct permanent residency with Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) and Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) visas, as well as a staggering provisional track with Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa. Partner Visas
Partner visas include both temporary and permanent options for married or de facto couples. Applicants can access Medicare and work rights while awaiting permanent residency.
Target Market:
- Married partners of Australian citizens, PRs, or eligible NZ citizens
- De facto partners of Australian citizens, PRs, or eligible NZ citizens
- Fiancés of Australian citizens, PRs, or eligible NZ citizens
Sponsor Requirements:
- Sponsor must not have sponsored more than one partner before
- Sponsor must not have been sponsored in the last 5 years (unless compelling circumstances apply)
- Sponsor must provide police clearances for all countries lived in ≥12 months in the past 10 years

Visa Requirements:
- Married or 12-month de facto relationship (or registered relationship)

Documents Required from the Sponsor
- Identity: sponsor’s passport, name change proof, previous relationship evidence (if any).
- Character: police certificates for all countries lived in ≥12 months since age 16.
- Sponsor Statement: written statement describing how the couple met and the nature of the relationship.
Partner Visa Application Process
- Gather all relationship and identity documents.
- Lodge online through ImmiAccount.
- Pay fees and include all dependants.
- Temporary visa usually granted first, followed by permanent visa after 2 years (if still together).
- Inform the Department of any change in relationship status.
Documents Required for Partner Visa

- Shared Finances: joint bank accounts, mortgage/lease documents, shared bills or insurance, transfers between accounts.
- Social Aspects: Form 888s, joint invitations, photos, travel records, social media evidence.
- Commitment: marriage certificate or relationship registration, communication while apart, joint will or legal arrangements.
- Family Members: children’s passports, birth certificates, custody or dependency evidence.
