Parent Visas

The General Skilled Migration program aims to fill skill gaps in the Australian economy by focusing on individuals with skills in the occupation list.

The program covers a variety of visas, including a direct permanent residency with Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) and Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) visas, as well as a staggering provisional track with Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa. Those who are willing to relocate to specific regional areas will receive additional points.

Parent visas include temporary and permanent options based on age, location, and financial capacity. Onshore applicants may be eligible for bridging visas.

Temporary Options: 870

Permanent Options: 103 / 143 / 804 / 864

Practical Pathways: Contributory (864 / 143) or Temporary (870) — faster than 30-year queue visas.

Subclass 870

Sponsored Parent (Subclass 870)

Temporary visa for parents to visit for 3 or 5 years, renewable up to 10 years. No work rights.

Eligibility:

  • Biological, adoptive, or step-parent of sponsor
  • Must have approved Parent Sponsor earning ≥ AUD 83,454.80• Meet health, character, and insurance requirements

Subclass 103

Parent (Subclass 103)

Permanent visa for parents of settled Australian citizens or PRs. Processing time exceeds 30 years, offshore only.

  • Health & character checks

Subclass 804

Aged Parent (Subclass 804)

Permanent visa for older parents of settled Australians. Onshore applicants can stay under bridging visa during 30+ year processing.

  • One parent must meet Aged Pension age
  • Meet Balance of Family Test
  • Assurance of Support required
  • Health & character requirements

Subclass 143/173

Contributory Parent (143 / 173)

For parents willing to pay higher fees for faster PR. Temporary (173) valid for 2 years before PR (143).

  • Health and character checks

Subclass 864/884

Contributory Aged Parent (864 / 884)

For aged parents paying higher fees for faster processing. 884 is a 2-year temporary visa before PR (864).
