Consultation Terms & Conditions

Last updated:
March 9, 2026

Acceptance and Engagement

These Consultation Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) are between Riverwoods Lawyers Pty Limited (ABN 68 647 729 628) (“we”, “us”, and “our”) and you, the person booking or receiving the consultation. You accept these Terms by booking a consultation or paying for a consultation with us.

Disclaimer

We are committed to helping you explore your migration options. However, sometimes our professional assessment may conclude that you have limited or no viable migration options available based on your current circumstances. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not offer refunds where you are dissatisfied with the outcome of our assessment.

Consultations at Riverwood Migration

Our consultations are designed to assist you in understanding your migration options and making informed decisions about your situation.

Each consultation session lasts up to 30 minutes and is generally sufficient to address your questions and provide meaningful professional guidance.

During the consultation, we will:

  • Discuss your migration goals
  • Assess your eligibility
  • Outline potential pathways
  • Explain relevant risks and next steps

Consultations are conducted online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Face-to-face consultations may be available upon request, subject to availability and an additional fee.

Please note that consultations do not include a comprehensive document review.

Meeting links are automatically sent to your email after payment. If you do not receive your link within one hour, please check your spam or junk folder.

How You Can Help Us Prepare

To help you get the most out of your consultation with us, we provide a link to a Microsoft form in your booking confirmation email. This form allows you to enter essential information and submit any questions or specific concerns you may have ahead of time.

To ensure the consultation is productive and tailored to your circumstances, we encourage you to provide:

  • A list of specific questions
  • Relevant documents
  • Your CV (if applicable)

Providing information in advance (24-48 hours before your consultation) allows us to prepare and maximise the value of your session by tailoring our advice and insights to your unique circumstances. This preparation helps us make the best use of your consultation time, ensuring you receive maximum value and guidance that aligns closely with your migration goals.

What to Expect During a Consultation

At the beginning of the consultation, we will ask questions to identify and analyse relevant aspects of your migration situation.

Once sufficient information is gathered, we will distinguish between realistic and unrealistic expectations and provide our professional assessment.

In some cases, our honest assessment may be that your migration options are limited based on your current circumstances. This may be due to factors such as:

  • Visa history
  • Personal circumstances
  • Skills assessment requirements
  • Age
  • English language ability
  • Current migration law and policy settings

Where this is the case, we may:

  • Confirm options you are already aware of
  • Advise that certain pathways are not viable
  • Explain why particular strategies may carry significant risk

Our role is to provide you with an accurate and professional evaluation of your situation — even if that evaluation is not what you hoped to hear.

Confirming that options are limited, or validating your existing understanding of your circumstances, is itself valuable professional advice. It helps you make informed decisions and avoid pursuing unsuitable or high-risk pathways.

Where appropriate, we will recommend suitable options and explain the pros, cons, and risks of each pathway.

Due to the complexity of migration law, some questions may require further consideration. In such cases, we may follow up after the consultation.

We may not be able to review extensive documentation during the consultation and may instead provide general guidance or direction.

Consultation Recordings

Consultations may be recorded for quality assurance, training, or compliance purposes.

If you do not wish the consultation to be recorded, please inform us before the consultation begins.

Recordings may be retained where required for legal or law enforcement purposes.

By attending the consultation, you acknowledge and agree that your personal information may be collected, recorded, and used by Riverwood Migration as the organiser. Communications during the consultation, including voice and documents shared, may also be recorded and retained for lawful purposes.

What Happens After a Consultation

We may contact you after the consultation to confirm information that required further checking.

A quotation for our migration services can be provided upon request.

Consultation fees are separate from any future migration services.

If you require further advice after your consultation, a new consultation must be booked.

Payments

The fees will be set out on our online booking page when you book. Payment must be made in full at time of booking.

Refund Policy

Consultation fees are strictly non-refundable in the following circumstances:

  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled consultation time
  • Non-attendance (no-shows or where you are more than 10 minutes late)
  • Where professional advice has been provided during the consultation, including where our assessment confirms limited options or aligns with your existing understanding

The consultation fee covers our professional time, expertise, and legal assessment of your individual circumstances — regardless of whether that advice opens new pathways or confirms limitations.

Professional advice remains valuable even where it confirms that certain options are not viable.

Cancellation

Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the scheduled consultation time are eligible for a full refund.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the consultation time are non-refundable. You acknowledge and agree that the consultation fee retained by us is a genuine pre-estimate of our losses arising from your late cancellation.

To cancel your consultation, please use the cancellation link in your appointment confirmation email and notify us at:

enquiry@riverwoodmigration.com

‍In the rare event that we must reschedule or cancel a consultation due to unforeseen circumstances, we will work with you to accommodate you with the earliest available appointment.

Rescheduling

Rescheduling within 24 hours of the original consultation time will incur an AUD $80.00 administration fee, which you acknowledge and agree is a genuine pre-estimate of our losses arising from your late rescheduling.

If we need to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances, we will arrange the earliest available alternative appointment.

Non-Attendance

If you fail to attend your consultation within 10 minutes of the scheduled start time, the consultation will be treated as a no-show and no refund will be provided.

Unacceptable Behaviour

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for disrespect, harassment, aggression, violence, or discrimination.

If such behaviour occurs, we reserve the right to terminate the consultation immediately without refund.

Intellectual Property

All intellectual property that we create or bring into existence in connection with the consultation is owned by us. This includes anything developed, designed, or discovered during our work. Each party retains ownership of their pre-existing intellectual property.

Liability

We will provide the consultation with reasonable care and skill, in a proper and professional manner. However, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses that may arise.

We may refuse to provide legal services to you where we consider we do not have the requisite expertise or jurisdictional qualifications in relation to the matter, where the matter gives rise to a real or potential legal or commercial conflict, or where we consider we are not professionally, ethically or lawfully able to assist you in relation to the matter.

Governing Law

These Terms and any action related thereto will be governed by the laws of NSW without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. Each party irrevocably and unconditionally submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts operating in NSW and any courts entitled to hear appeals from those courts and waives any right to object to proceedings being brought in those courts.
