Starting from July 1, 2025, the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) in Australia will increase from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515. This adjustment aims to ensure that overseas skilled workers are fairly compensated and will be subject to annual indexation.

Effective Date and Impact
  • The change will take effect from July 1, 2025, and will apply to all employer sponsorship or nomination applications lodged on or after this date. In other words, if you submit a sponsorship or nomination application after this date, you must meet the updated salary threshold for that year.
  • This adjustment will directly affect the applications for the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa and the 186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa.
How to Adapt to the New Regulation

If your salary does not meet the new TSMIT requirement (i.e., AUD 76,515 per annum), it is advisable to adjust the salary level as soon as possible or ensure that your nomination and visa applications are submitted before July 1, 2025, so they can be processed according to the current salary threshold.

It’s important to note that all new SID nomination applications submitted from July 1, 2025, will need to meet the updated salary standards.

TSMIT Explained

TSMIT represents the salary requirement for the nominated position. In other words, it is the income a nominee must earn while working in the nominated role. After the visa is granted, the applicant must work in the nominated position and meet the TSMIT requirement. Specifically, the annual salary of AUD 76,515 is the base salary, excluding superannuation.

Key Changes and Affected Groups
  • Nomination applications that do not meet the new salary requirement will not be approved: From July 1, 2025, all nomination applications that do not meet the AUD 76,515 annual salary requirement will be unable to receive approval. However, existing visa holders and nomination applications lodged before July 1, 2025, will not be impacted.
  • Visa application fees may increase: It is expected that visa application fees will be adjusted and may increase after July 1, 2025.
Recommendations

For applicants who currently meet the employer sponsorship requirements, it is advisable to negotiate with your employer and submit the visa application before July 1. Those who will need to submit their visa applications after July 1, 2025, should be mindful of the new salary standards.
