189 Invitation Round Results Released

The Department of Home Affairs has released the official results for the Skilled Independent visa subclass 189 invitation round held on 4 June 2026.

A total of 10,000 invitations were issued in this round. The Department has also indicated that the next subclass 189 invitation round is expected to be held by 30 September 2026.

Official invitation round results can be checked on the Department of Home Affairs website:

Which Occupations Performed Well?

This round showed strong outcomes for several health, education, social work and trade occupations.

Some registered nursing, teaching and social work occupations were invited from around 75 points. Several construction trade occupations, including Carpenter, Carpenter and Joiner, and Plumber, appeared at 65 points.

This suggests that Australia’s skilled migration priorities continue to favour occupations linked to healthcare, education, social support, construction and essential workforce needs.

Popular Occupations Still Face Pressure

Not all high-demand or traditionally popular occupations performed strongly in this round.

A number of ICT, accounting, quantity surveying and certain engineering-related occupations did not appear prominently in the official invitation results.

This is an important reminder that a high points score alone does not guarantee an invitation. The nominated occupation, invitation priority, labour market demand and EOI submission date can all affect the outcome.

What Applicants Should Check Now

Applicants should review their SkillSelect EOI before the next expected round.

Key areas to check include:

  • Whether the nominated occupation is still realistic based on recent invitation data
  • Whether the points claim is accurate and supported by documents
  • Whether the skills assessment, English result and employment history are still valid
  • Whether subclass 190, subclass 491 or employer sponsorship may provide a stronger backup pathway

If your occupation was not invited in this round, waiting for subclass 189 alone may not be the best strategy.

State Nomination Also Matters

Applicants should also monitor state and territory nomination allocations for subclass 190 and subclass 491 visas.

Official state and territory nomination allocation information can be checked here:
https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/what-we-do/state-and-territory-nomination-allocations

Each state and territory has its own occupation priorities, eligibility rules and invitation process. A pathway that works in one state may not work in another.

Key Takeaways

The 4 June 2026 subclass 189 invitation round issued 10,000 invitations.

The next subclass 189 round is expected to be held by 30 September 2026, but the invitation size and occupation mix are not guaranteed.

Health, teaching, social work and selected construction trade occupations performed strongly in this round.

Some ICT, accounting, quantity surveying and engineering-related occupations remain highly competitive.

Applicants should review their EOI and consider backup pathways before relying only on subclass 189.
