On 11 July 2025, the Northern Territory (NT) Government officially released its updated offshore 491 Skilled Occupation List, signalling that:

The new financial year’s nomination intake is approaching, and

The updated list will form the assessment basis once allocations open!

For offshore applicants planning to apply for a 491 Skilled Work Regional visa, this update is a strong indicator that NT nomination will likely resume immediately based on the 11 July list once new quotas are confirmed.

Why is this list update significant?

  • Clear timing: Published on 11 July 2025, this aligns with new fiscal year settings.
  • Offshore applicants eligible: NT remains one of the few states accepting offshore ROI (Registration of Interest) submissions.
  • Application window may open anytime: Once nomination allocations are released, NT is expected to commence invitations based directly on this new list, replacing outdated criteria.

Key NT Nomination Criteria (Offshore 491 Applicants)

If you're planning to submit an EOI + ROI for NT nomination, here are the core eligibility requirements:

  • Your occupation must appear on the 11 July 2025 list
  • Be under 45 years old
  • Meet the minimum English requirement (IELTS 6.0 each band or equivalent)
  • Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrate sufficient settlement funds
  • Submit a detailed NT Commitment Statement outlining your genuine interest in living and working in the Territory

RIVERWOOD TIP: Prepare Now Before the Gate Opens!

Although NT has not yet confirmed the nomination reopening date, the early publication of this new occupation list strongly suggests that nominations could resume at any time — potentially with no prior notice.

We strongly recommend getting these documents ready:

  • Valid skills assessment in your nominated occupation
  • English test results (IELTS, PTE or equivalent)
  • Proof of employment history and references
  • Draft of your NT Commitment Statement
  • Evidence of financial capacity for relocation
